6.8 Installing the pneumatic system
The arrangement of the rotor's air cushion bearing and the overall design also
allows the use of the aerostatic bearing as a clamping unit for safety oriented
functions of the drive system.

Fast-switching valve / Valve
The compressed air to the slide is guided, for example, via a fast switching
valve and the valve itself is placed on the brake output of the motor controller,
e.g. CMMP. The motor controller's brake output powers the valve directly in
combination with the controller functions.
Thus, the controller's braking functions are used in "Disable" motor, for ex-
ample, to make the brake output currentless so that the motor is not pressur-
ised. For vertical operation of the ELGL drives, this braking function is required
in case gravity compensation cannot be applied.
The automatic braking function can also be used to make the drive currentless
in a time-controlled sense and bring it into an arrested state, which means
electrical power can be saved.
