PROBABLE CAUSE
1. The V-belt is incorrectly tensioned.
2. The spindle is dry.
3. The spindle’s pulley is loose.

2. Shavings have trapped in the hole.
3. The drill bit is dull.
4. The feed is too slow.
5. Cutting oil is required.
1. Hard wood fibres or uneven cutting edges
and/or cutting angles on the drill bit.
2. The drill bit is bent.
1. No drilling plate under the work-piece.
1. The work-piece is not supported/fixed
enough.
1. The work-piece is seizing the drill bit or too
much pressure on the feed.
2. The V-belt is incorrectly tensioned.
1. The drill bit is bent.
2. The spindle bearings are worn.

chuck.

REMEDIAL MEASURE
1. Adjust the belt tension. See the section about
tightening the V-belt.
2. Lubricate the spindle See “Lubrication”.
3. Check that the pulley’s jam nut is tight.
4. Tighten the locking screws in the pulleys.
1. Adjust the speed. See point on drill speed
in “Get to know your machine”.
2. Pull up the drill bit often and remove the
shavings.
3. Sharpen the drill bit.
4. Feed faster and allow the drill bit to cut.
5. Lubricate the drill bit with cutting oil.
