General Description
Introduction
This manual describes how to set up, configure, program, and use the Informer15 Speaker
with Modbus. The Informer15 manual has its own product manual online at fedsig.com.
The target audience of this manual is for setting up, programming, and activating the
Informer15 using Modbus.
The Informer15 is designed to meet a broad set of applications. Typically the Informer15
is controlled using Federal Signal Commander
®
software for programming and
activations. You can also control the Informer15 speaker with Modbus. You can use
the Informer15 Speaker simultaneously with Commander to allow a broad range of
networked applications. For example, you can use Commander to setup, monitor, and
upgrade speakers while activations are via a Modbus control system.
This manual describes the setup and configuration when using Modbus. The Informer15
interface supports the Modbus TCP protocol. Configure the Modbus interface on the
unit’s webpage. There are two Modbus configuration options:
• Enable or Disable the Modbus interface
• The TCP port number (The default Modbus port number is 502.)
Programming without Commander
The following process is typical for setting up and programming (without Commander):
1.
Configuring the Network Interface (NIC)–The System Administrator identifies
the server IP address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, and the IP addresses for all
Informer devices.
2.
Digital Voice or Tone Files–You can load Informers with WAV files for broadcasting.
Federal Signal can provide high-quality voice and/or tone WAV file. WAV files are
stored on a microSD card, which is accessible in the junction box of the speaker.
3.
Operation–This section covers the Modbus data structure and associated functions
that can be performed.
