FILTER ASSEMBLY
The filter assembly is shown in
The filter assembly has a replaceable granular activated carbon filter
(P/N 20-0026) and a 5 micron particulate filter (Part # 20-0021). Chlorine
and bromide are harmful to the fresh water membranes. The filter assembly
is supplied to remove these chemicals and harmful particulate.
NOTE
: The filter is your first line of defense protecting the pump and membrane.
Keeping the filter in good condition will help insure trouble-free operation.
WARNING
: Do not use third party filter elements, use only FCI
filter elements. Third party filter elements do not properly fit and the
seams fall apart. They also allow by-pass resulting in damage to pump
as well as premature fouling of the R.O. membrane element(s).
CAUTION
: Do not use “string wound” or “fiber” filter elements.
String wound and fiber filter elements are designed for the photographic
film developing industry. If they are used, they will plug up rapidly in
one-tenth or less time than a FCI supplied filter cartridge element. This
will cause frequent shut downs of the system and frequent changing,
resulting in high maintenance cost and user frustration.
The inlet of the filter assembly has a barbed fitting and plumbs to the dockwater
source. The maximum allowed pressure of the dockwater source is 50 psi. If it is
more, a pressure regulator must be installed. Contact FCI Watermakers for details.
The outlet of the filter assembly is pre-connected to the panel. If you
are using modular mount, you can reuse the fittings on the existing
1/2 inch PE tubing, and replace the tubing with a longer length.
Also, the filter assembly has a solenoid valve on the outlet. The
solenoid valve is pre-wired to the panel’s electrical enclosure. If
you are using modular mount, extra wire may be needed.
The filter assembly has a service valve on the inlet side. This is used to remove
the pressure from inlet stream when you need to clean or replace the filters. A
filter wrench is included in the Installation Kit to assist in servicing the filters.
