Glossary
DMX line
Separate area for data transfer via DMX. A maximum of 512 parameters can be
controlled, to do this 512 addresses can be assigned. Within a line, devices can
be assigned at will.
Station address
Individual network-independent device address for communication via RS-485 or
Ethernet
Preset
Also called a "cue"; Local cue that is output by the dimmer processor alone, and is
also stored there.
IP address
IP = "Internet Protocol". An IP address combines subnet number and node
number.
Consumer
Also "Dimmer": Dimmer unit that can be controlled using a specified dimmer value
(=light value = control level). Not to be confused with the actual load (for example,
the lamp).
Network protocol
Protocol used for transfer of data via Ethernet, for example, AVAB/ UDP or sACN
Subnet
According to subnet mask number of the local network
Logical network
Total of 32 universes. The division into 32 universes and 10 superordinate logical
networks serves to form the structure of the address area for the Ethernet transfer.
Several logical networks are required when networking several venues or studios.
Universe
A universe is the Ethernet equivalent of a DMX line (512 bytes).
