Also try to keep the total amount of work performed in a single day under 2 hours or less.
4. Never use the machine in following circumstances:
- When the ground is slippery or when other conditions exist which might make it impossible to maintain a
steady posture while using the machine.
- At night, in heavy fog, or any other time when your field of vision might be limited, or if it is difficult to
gain a clear view of the work area.
- During heavy rain, storm, lightning, in strong or gale-force winds, or at any other time when weather
conditions might make it unsafe to use the machine.
Warnings concerning handling of fuel
1. The engine of this machine is designed to run on a mixed fuel, which contains highly flammable gasoline.
Never store cans of fuel or refill the fuel tank in any place where there is a boiler, stove, wood fire, electrical
sparks, welding sparks, or any other source of heat or fire which might ignite the fuel.
2. Smoking while operating the machine or refilling its fuel tank is extremely dangerous. Always be sure to
keep lit cigarettes away from the machine at all times.
3. Before refilling the tank, always turn off the engine first and take a careful look around to make sure that
there are no sparks or open flames anywhere nearby. Stop the engine and allow it to cool completely be-
fore refuelling.
4. Do not overfill the fuel tank. If any fuel spillage occurs during refuelling, use a dry cloth to wipe up spills
before turning the engine back on again.
5. After refuelling, screw the fuel cap back tightly onto the fuel tank and then carry the machine to a spot 3
meters or more away from the fuelling place before turning on the engine.
Things to check before using the machine
1. Before beginning the work, look around carefully to get a feel for the shape of the land and area to be
worked on. If you see any obstacles or objects which might get in the way while working, clear them away
before beginning the work. Also clear the work area of trash and other obstacles to help ensure good foot-
ing.
2. The area within a perimeter of 15 meters of the person using the machine should be considered a hazard-
ous area into which no one should enter while the machine is in use. If necessary, use yellow warning rope
and warning signs to isolate the work area. If work is to be performed simultaneously by two or more per-
sons, always check the presence and location of others so as to maintain sufficient distance to ensure
safety of each worker.
3. Make sure that there are no loose screws or bolts, fuel leaks, ruptures, dents or any other problems which
might interfere with safe operation. Be especially careful when checking the blades or blade mountings. Al-
so make sure that the stop switch and throttle controls are working properly.
Safety precautions for operation
1. Keep bystanders at least 15 meters away from the operating machine to reduce risk of being struck by
falling objects, thrown debris etc.
2. Always hold the machine firmly with both hands. Always keep a proper footing and do not overreach. Main-
tain your balance at all times during operation.
3. When using the machine, never cover your eyes or take your eyes off of the work. If you need to do so,
place the throttle into idling position first.
4. If someone calls out while you are working, always be sure to turn off the engine before turning around.
5. Operating the engine without a muffler or with a muffler that is damaged or improperly installed can in-
crease engine noise sufficiently to lead to hearing loss.
6. Never touch the spark plug or plug cord while the engine is in operation. Doing so may result in being sub-
jected to an electrical shock.
7. Never touch the muffler, spark plug or other metallic parts of the engine while the engine is in operation or
immediately after shutting down the engine. Doing so may result in serious burns.
