Inspection and Maintenance
Proper performance of the inspection and maintenance procedures described below allows this
unit to perform for the years of trouble-free operation for which it is designed.
Maintenance Procedures
The inspection procedures described here are divided between two types: daily inspection,
which can be performed by those who use the unit on a daily basis, and periodic inspection, to
be performed by individuals who have a more detailed technical knowledge of the unit.

Check for proper connection of cables.
Check for proper installation of roll paper
and ribbon cassette. Is the ribbon passing
along the proper route?
Check the ribbon for damage.
Reconnect any cables that have
come loose.
Correctly install roll paper and the
ribbon cassette.
Replace the ribbon cassette, if
damaged.
Paper particles, paper
scraps, foreign matter
Open the roll paper cover and make
sure there are no large pieces of paper
or other foreign matter present.
Clean out any paper or foreign matter.

Remedies
Dust, paper particles, or dirt
on and in the printer
No dust, paper particles, or dirt should be
allowed to build up on or in the printer.
Clean the printer thoroughly with a
vacuum cleaner.
No small pieces of paper should be left in
the paper path.
Remove any pieces of paper from the
paper path.
Lubrication
See the “Lubricants” section.
Lubricate the points listed in the
“Lubrication Points” section.
Operation check
When each printer component is
checked, no abnormalities should be
found.
Check the printer following the
Troubleshooting flowcharts in
Chapter 4.
Shape of the springs
No spring should be bent or deformed.
Replace any deformed springs.
Ribbon cassette
The ribbon cassette should be properly
installed in the printer.
See “Replacing the Ribbon Cassette”
in this chapter.
