Musculoskeletal conditions: for orthopedic conditions affecting muscles of the lower extremity
including postoperative management after knee surgery (ACL and meniscal injuries) or joint
arthroplasty (hip, knee), as well as for treatment of (chronic) conditions of the lower limb
including arthritis and patella-femoral pain syndrome;

Critical illness and advanced disease states: to prevent muscle atrophy, restore muscle strength
and improve functional capacity in patients with severe illness or gradually over time in those
with chronic progressive diseases (such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and
congestive heart failure).
NMES is also used for:
•
Incontinence: stimulation of pelvic floor muscles;
•
increase abdominal strength in heathy individuals.
The electrical stimulation is applied to skeletal muscles with the objective to elicit contraction
caused by the electrical depolarization of intramuscular nerve branches. The electrical stimulation is
delivered using surface electrodes that are positioned over muscle bellies.
Intended user
The Endomed 484 is intended to be used, and shall only be used, by or under the supervision of
professional users in the field of physical therapy and rehabilitation, who understand the benefits
and limitations of electrotherapy.
