These 3 wires allo w the alarm to co ntro l the
po wer do o r lo ck/ unlo ck systems o f mo st vehicles
witho ut external relays. Ho wever, o ne o r two
relays may be required in so me cases.
The alarm has a built-in timer which is pre - set
fo r 0 .5 seco nds, but which can be pro g rammed
fo r 3 .5 seco nds. See PRO G RAMMING , pag e 1 8 .
Types o f do o r lo ck/ unlo ck systems — At the time
this manual was co mpleted, there were seven
co mmo n types o f po wer do o r lo ck/ unlo ck
systems in use:
A. Neg ative relay switching to facto ry actuato rs
— The facto ry do o r lo ck switch has 3 wires.
O ne wire always sho ws g ro und. The LO C K
WIRE beco mes g ro und when the do o r is
lo cked, and sends a pulse to a facto ry relay
to lo ck the do o rs. The UNLO C K WIRE
beco mes g ro und when the do o r is unlo cked,
and sends a pulse to a facto ry relay to
unlo ck the do o rs. Mo st Japanese cars use
this system. THIS IS THE MO ST C O MMO N
TYPE O F PO WER DO O R LO C K SYSTEM.

Po sitive relay switching to facto ry actuato rs
— The facto ry do o r lo ck switch has 3 wires.
O ne wire always sho ws + 1 2 VDC . The
LO C K WIRE beco mes + 1 2 VDC when the
do o r is lo cked, and sends a pulse to a
facto ry relay to lo ck the do o rs. The
UNLO C K WIRE beco mes + 1 2 VDC when the
do o r is unlo cked, and sends a pulse to a
facto ry relay to unlo ck the do o rs. Mo st
G eneral Mo to rs cars use this system.
