Midé is committed to continuing its development of the Slam Stick product line. As engineers
ourselves who have been on projects that require extensive testing and data analysis, we’ve long
been frustrated with how difficult and time consuming testing can be. Our focus over the last
several years has been around vibration sensing systems; but much of our technology and know-
how is centered on data acquisition and analysis. So in the future our product line will evolve to
accommodate external sensors and more embedded sensor options. We also recognize the
potential of wireless communication, especially for long term condition monitoring applications.
In the shorter term Midé is developing firmware and upgraded electronics to support two
new/additional sensors. A nine-degree-of-freedom sensor (3 axis gyroscope, 3 axis
magnetometer, and another 3 axis accelerometer) is being added soon. Specifically the sensor
is
. The membrane is also being upgraded to include the pressure and
temperature sensor so that it can more directly measure ambient conditions. This sensor is being
upgraded to
TE’s combination temperature, pressure, and humidity sensor
. This offers a new
sensor type and also an improved temperature and pressure range along with a faster sample
rate.
After these sensors are added, the product line will be refreshed to make the choices simpler for
customers, you will get all add-on sensors standard! There will still be the choice between
measurement ranges and if you need a piezoelectric accelerometer (Slam Stick X) or
piezoresistive accelerometer (Slam Stick S) in addition to the digital sensors. Then Midé will tackle
the design of a system with clean external inputs for additional analog sensors!
