Overview of Operation and Maintenance
The IDU is designed to make routine administration as easy as possible. The IDU web
interface makes it simple to monitor the IDU's performance, troubleshoot problems,
upgrade software and much more.
Under normal operation, the IDU requires no regular maintenance.
This document organizes operation and maintenance tasks according to the FCAPS stan-
dard (fault, configuration, accounting, performance and security). FCAPS is a model for
organizing the tasks of network administration. FCAPS provides a standardized approach
that is familiar to many network administrators. It can be used to administer any aspect of
a network, from a simple element such as an IDU or router to a whole network system.
Note: Before performing operation and maintenance tasks, the IDU must
be correctly installed and configured for satellite network access. For
more information, see the IDU Installation Manual or on-line help.
