Checking the Earthing (Grounding)

Place the press in its open position, and connect the mains lead to the press.  Be sure
to use the mains lead supplied with the press.

The earthing (grounding) should be checked at four places with an ohmmeter.  The
resistance should measure

less than 1 Ohm

a.  Terminal/earth contact of the mains lead:  measure the Ohm value between the

terminal/earth contact of the mains lead wall plug, and the other 2 pins (phase and
neutral).  There should be 3 points for measurement.

b.  Heating shoe (aluminum only)
c.  Metal lock of the movable handle
d.  One of the 4 screws in the back of the press (the part where the mains lead is

connected to the press)

If the resistance is more than 1 Ohm, repeat the check with a new mains lead.

If the resistance continues to measure more than 1 Ohm, check the fastening and the
Ohm value of the earth connections, i.e.:

Mains Lead
a.  Connect the mains lead to the press.  Be sure to use the one supplied with the

machine.

b.  Measure the Ohm value between the terminal/earth contact of the mains lead wall

plug, and the other 2 pins (phase and neutral).  The measure should be

infinity

c.  If the resistance is not infinite, carry out the same check using a new mains lead.

Pressure Arm Connections
a.  Check to make sure that all the connections are securely fastened.  If the

connection is good the Ohm value should be infinite.

b.  If the value is not infinite, disconnect each wire and check it.
c.  If the wires are bad, replace them; (see wiring diagrams, pp. 16, 17).

Tilt switch
a.  Turn the press on.  Close the press with the fixed handle only, and wait for the

buzzer to sound.

b.  Raise the fixed handle until the buzzer stops.
c.  If the buzzer does not stop, adjust the tilt switch on board.
