Pilot
surface-mount 12v steplights illuminate steps where
wall material doesn’t lend itself to recessed lighting, such
as dry stone walls or deck board surrounds which make
recessing awkward.
Pilot with eyelid
is used where a soft downward-facing
lighting effect is required over steps or around a terrace.
They have also been used to provide diffuse lighting from
0
pergola beams.
Pilot with grill
has a 45 grill to shield the
lamp completely from horizontal view. They have also been
used to light across brick barbecues and from under seats.
Both models have a 1m cable fitted and frosted lens to
provide diffused lighting from 12v G4 10w or 20w tungsten
halogen capsule lamps
(Order CAP10 or CAP20
separately)
The fine sandblasted finish of brass
models will weather to an ochre colour to blend with
sandstone, timber and buff brick, while 316 stainless steel
models are designed to resist corrosion in most situations.
Pilot
is available in halogen models for use with a 12v
halogen capsule lamp of 10w or 20w, or in low energy
versions with an array of 4 white l.e.d’s.
or a 0.5w array of white l.e.d.s providing long
life, low energy light output roughly equivalent to a 10w
halogen lamp. The l.e.d. array faces downward in eyelid
models and forward in grill models

Steplighting tips -
use one light every 2 steps. Position each light about 20cm above the top tread
and no more than 50cm above the bottom tread you wish to illuminate. Use several lights to ensure
all risers are directly lit, so that shadows do not conceal hidden hazards, such as toys left lying
around which could cause a fall. Position steplights in a line parallel with the gradient of the steps.
For lighting terraces, use
downward facing lights at
40cm height to avoid glare
and preserve the view

illuminates treads A, B and
C, plus risers 1 and 2, but
riser 3 is in shadow, which
can increase risk.
Using more steplights
ensures all risers are lit
from the front. Aligning the
step lights with the gradient
of the staircase keeps
lighting consistent
