Instruction manual CLASSIKA II / CLASSIKA PID
27
Caution!
Beware of hot sprayings while cleaning the group.
7.3 Prophylactic descaling
A regular descaling of the machine is recommended in order to avoid calcification and expensive repairs. While
descaling, always take into account the hardness degree of the water. It is very important to use a sparing descaler
which does not affect the metal. You can purchase a descaler in powder or tablet form perfectly suited for your
machine at your specialty dealer. Just fill the water tank with fresh water and dissolve one bag of the descaler in it.
Then proceed as follows:
1
Dissolve the descaler in water according to the instructions for use (see above) and pour the solution into the
water tank. Switch on the machine.
2
Release a minimum of 1,000 ml of water from the group and from the steam/ hot water dispenser. Thus, the
boiler is filled with descaler. Then heat up the machine.
3
Place the portafilter with the blind filter into the brew group and operate the group lever 3 times for about 20
seconds each time. Move the lever into the lower position after every operation. This descales the expansion valve.
4
After this process, let the descaler react for approx.
½ hour
.
5
Unclamp the portafilter and release the remaining descaler solution by operating the brew group lever.
6
Switch off the machine, remove and clean the water tank and fill it with fresh water.
7
Switch on the machine and release approx. 1,000 ml of water from the group and the steam/ hot water valve
(switch pump/ hot water).
8
Clamp the portafilter with the blind filter back into the brew group and activate the brew group lever 3 times for
approx. 20 seconds. Move the lever into the lower position after every operation. This descales the expansion valve.
9
Repeat the process of pos. 7 approx. 4 times to make sure that no descaler is left in the boiler.
10
Then remove the blind filter from the portafilter.
Important!
These descaling instructions are only meant for a prophylactic descaling. Please do not descale the
machine if it is already calcified. While descaling the machine, the lime residues may plug several
components, such as valves, gauges etc., causing damage to your espresso coffee machine. In this case,
please contact your specialised dealer. It is probable that a professional descaling has to be carried out
which requires the disassembly of boiler and tubing.
Damage to persons or to the material, caused by calcification in and on your machine, is not subject to
the manufacturer’s liability.
In this case, the warranty expires as well. Machines will only be accepted for repair after previous
technical advice and written acknowledgement has been given.
Please do not enclose loose parts e. g. portafilter or drip tray when sending in the machine for repairs
/ maintenance.
7.4 Maintenance
(If you have any questions, please contact your specialised dealer.)
Replacing the group gasket and the shower screen
(Group gasket (item no. C449900229) and shower screen (item
no. C519900103) must be changed at the same time)
1
Switch off the machine (power switch in lower position) and disconnect the power cord.
2
Open the steam valve and release the steam. Then close it again.
3
Let the machine cool down to room temperature.
