Materials which you may use in a microwave oven
Dishes
Notes
Aluminium foil
Only to cover small parts of the foods. Covering of small parts of meat
or poultry with the foil you will prevent the over cooking or burning of
small parts of the food. The foil must be at a distance of at least 2.5 cm
from the inside area of the oven (if it is too close, then the foil may be
bent).
Baking trays
Follow the instructions of the manufacturer. The bottom of the bak-
ing container must be at least 5 mm above the turning plate. Incorrect
handling may lead to the breakage of the turning plate.
Plates
Use only plates and dishes designed for use in microwave ovens. Follow
the instructions of the manufacturer. Do not use cracked or otherwise
damaged bowls.
Glass jugs
and glasses
Always remove the cap. Only heat up the food. Do not cook it! The
majority of glass jugs and glasses are not resistant to high temperatures
and breakage may occur.
Glass baking dish
Use only glass baking trays resistant to high temperatures.
Check that the bowl does not have a metal rim or another metal acces-
sory. Do not use cracked or otherwise damaged bowls.
Baking bags
Follow the instructions of the manufacturer. Do not close with metal
clips. Leave the sealing joint slightly opened so that hot steam can es-
cape.
Paper trays.
Appropriate only for heating up or short cooking. Do not leave the oven
unattended while cooking.
Paper towels
Use to cover food and to absorb melted fat. Use only for short cooking.
Do not leave unattended while cooking.
Baking paper
Use to cover foods, to cover food while stewing and to prevent the
oven from being sprayed.
Plastic materials
Use only plates and dishes designed for use in microwave ovens. Follow
the instructions of the manufacturer. A plastic material appropriate for
use in a microwave oven must have a specifi c labelling: „Appropriate
for microwave ovens“. Some plastics soften as a result of long term
effects of high temperatures. „Boiling bags“ and baking satchels must
be cut through, pierced or otherwise ventilated according to the food
manufacturer's instructions.
Plastic wrapping
Use only plates and dishes designed for use in microwave ovens. Use
them to cover foods and to maintain the moisture of the food during
cooking. Make sure that the plastic foil is not touching the food being
prepared.
Thermometers
Use only thermometers designed for use in microwave ovens.
(Thermometers for meat, pastry and cakes.)
Wax paper
Use to cover foods to prevent the oven from being sprayed and to main-
tain the moisture of the food during cooking.
