Sonix Ms12 Technical Manual

SONIX MS12 TECHNICAL MANUAL

TM371 / A  June 2022  www.eaton.com

6 .7 .1  Message slot priority

The unit has configurable priority structure to the

messages. Message recorded into slot 1 has a higher

priority than message 2, with message 12 the lowest

priority.

This allows the user to escalate warnings or information

broadcasts depending the site conditions.

ote:

N

Initiation of a higher priority message while playback is active will

cause unit to abort current playback and begin playback of higher prior-

ity message.

6 .7 .2  Connected via CAT6A cables

A Sonix Ms12 connected into the Sonix PA/GA system

via the CAT6A cables has more configuration and

interaction with the PA/GA system.

6 .7 .2 .1  Message Holding

While the system is busy and the Ms12 unit is un-able

to broadcast, the playback request will be ‘held’ for

approximately 30 seconds before abandoning playback.

6 .7 .2 .2  Message Zoning

Zoning for the message playback is common for all

message slots. The configuration includes a map for all

available zones to be individually selected.

See SAS manual for more details.

6 .7 .2 .3  Ms12 Unit priority

All audio sources in a Sonix PA/GA system have a

configurable priority of broadcast. This allows the

system to correctly choose which audio to broadcast in

the event of multiple events occurring simultaneously.

Priority should be configured as part of the holistic PA/GA system

configuration as per the cause and effect.

See SAS manual for more details.

6 .7 .2 .4  Emergency speech auto-elevate

Normal message playback is broadcast as routine

speech, but each message slot can be individually

configured to auto-elevate to Emergency Speech.

If a message is elevated to Emergency Speech

broadcast, its priority is raised above any active Alarms

on the PA/GA system and the chime is changed to an

important message chime; single short burst of 1 kHz.

See SAS manual for more details.

6 .7 .2 .5  Remote playback abort

Activation of Alarm Cancel on the PA/GA system will

cause the unit to clear its active message playback and

queued message. This feature cannot be disabled.

ote:

N

Cancelling of an active alarm has the side effect of clearing any

message queue.

6 .7 .3  Connected via isolated audio and key lines

Using the Ms12 connected via a two pair cable to

connect audio and control lines to a Sonix Io instead of

using the RJ45 connectors and CAT6A cabling. When

the unit enters playback the control lines become active

and the recorded message is relayed over the audio pair.

Any connections using the isolated audio and key lines

have no system information available to understand

when to queue a message. Therefore, recorded

messages will automatically enter playback. Speech

broadcast priority of the Ms12 message is now set by

the priority of the Sonix Io unit. The message will only

be broadcast if the priority of the Sonix Io unit is higher

than the currently active system priority.

The key line polarity can be configured to be normally

open or normally closed, but the output is OPEN when

the unit is in an un-powered state.

Warning:

 Using normally closed, open when

active, setting for the key line can cause the

PA/GA system to broadcast a non-message

permanently if the key line cable is dislodged.

This NOT the recommended setting.

ote:

N

This connection relies on the Sonix Io unit to be configured cor-

rectly for both priority and the appropriate inputs to be enabled.

ote:

N

PA/GA Zoning and broadcast priority are set by other units in the

system in this connection schema.
