6 Unit operation
6 .1 Data and audio communications
Connecting the Ms12 directly to the PA/GA system via
the Io bus has advantages for the PA/GA system and
Ms12 unit operation. The unit can monitor system status
and will ‘hold’ the message playback if the system is
busy, for a pre-set time before the request is cancelled.
The system can also monitor the status of the Ms12 and
report any issues in a timely manner.
6 .1 .1 PA/GA mounted using CAT6A cabling
When the Ms12 is installed as an integral component
within the cabinet, it connects to the Sonix 2Mx central
controller via the IO bus. These are identified by the blue
CAT6A cables which are connected between the rear of
the 2Mx and RJ45 connectors on the Ms12.
Each CAT6A cable provides a bidirectional data & audio
connection between the 2Mx and the Ms12. In the
event of either one of a pair of RJ45 cable becoming
disconnected the data & audio has a redundant path
ensuring the Ms12 will continue to operate without any
loss of functionality. A flashing IO fault is logged on the
2Mx status display to warn of the fault and differentiate
it from any other internal cable loop fault.
6 .1 .2 PA/GA mounted using isolated audio and key line
cabling
When the Ms12 is installed as a peripheral component,
it is connected to the Sonix Io and uses one of the
Sonix Io’s audio & key line inputs. This allows the unit
to be situated inside or outside the PAGA cabinet and
connected using a 2 twisted pair + screen cable.
6 .2 Front panel status indicators
The Sonix Ms12 unit reports status on the front panel
indicators. These indicators are typically paired red and
green LED’s.
6 .2 .1 Power
The power indicator is used to show power is active:
Solid Green
Power on
6 .2 .2 Message Status (1 – 12)
The Ms12 message status indicators use a combination
of the red and green indicators to inform the user of the
current status and to guide the recording or playback of
messages.
The front indications can be split into 3 distinct modes of
operation for the playback and recording new messages,
either through the rear message initiate inputs, access
panel or by using the front panel switch.
