Radio modem installation
A radio modem can be installed on the document holder
which is located on the inside front cover of the CBC-8000
control. The amount of space that is available for the radio
modem is shown in Figure 40.
For a listing of the modems that are recommended for use
with the CBC-8000 control, refer to
A Serial SelectComm module is required for connecting a
radio modem to the control. For information on SelectComm
modules, refer to
Serial SelectComm module on Page 14
.
Figure 41 on page 36 is an example of the CBC-8000 control
with a radio modem installed.
The procedure to install a radio modem on a CBC-8000
control is described on the next page.
Figure 40. Available radio modem mounting space.
To install a radio modem on the document holder of a CBC-
8000 control as shown in Figure 41:
1.
Open the door of the control.
2.
Press the
MANUAL
button to place the control in
Manual mode. The control should remain in Manual
mode while on site. This prevents the control from
operating on remote commands or local metrics while
personnel are near the capacitor banks.
3.
Remove power from the control.
4.
Align the radio modem on the document holder so that
the warning label is still visible.
5.
Mount the radio modem to the document holder using
#6 x 3/8 inch (M2.9 x 9.5 mm) stainless steel sheet
metal screws.
These screws are self-tapping and they do not require a
pilot hole to be drilled. Torque the screws to no more
than 8 inch-pounds (0.9 newton-meter) to avoid stripping
the document holder material.
6.
Connect the DB9 communication cable from the radio
modem to DB9 serial connector on the SelectComm
module as shown in Figure 41.
7.
Connect the 12 VDC power cable from the radio to the
SelectComm module as shown in Figure 41.
8.
Connect the antenna cable from the radio modem to the
antenna as shown in Figure 41.
9.
Use two or three cable ties to secure the three cables to
the side of the document holder as shown in Figure 41.
This prevents the cables from becoming unplugged
when opening and closing the door.
