Tips on how to select the sensitivity level
Warning
Excellent operation of the ABS system, for all
available levels, is ensured only with the OE brake
system and with OE tyres and/or with the ones
recommended by Ducati. In particular, OE tyres for
this motorcycle are Pirelli Scorpion Trail II in the
following sizes: 120/70ZR17 at the front, 190/55ZR17
at the rear. The use of tyres of different size and
characteristics to the original tyres may alter the
operating characteristics of the system thus making
it unsafe. It is recommended not to install tyres of
different size than the ones approved for your vehicle.
Selecting level 3, the ABS will ensure a very stable
braking thanks to lift-up control and front-to-rear
combined braking, and the motorcycle will keep a
good alignment during the whole braking action. ABS
level 3 features active cornering function which, with
vehicle leaning over, prevents wheel lockup and
slipping as much as possible, within the physical
limits allowed by the vehicle and by the road
conditions.
Selecting level 2, the ABS will privilege more and
more the braking power rather than stability and lift-
up control, which is disabled in level 2. Level 2
provides for the front-to-rear combined braking and
the cornering function.
ABS level 1 is specific for off-road use and ABS is
active only on the front wheel to help braking
performance on dirt roads. In this level there is no lift-
up control, neither front-to-rear combined braking,
nor cornering function.
The choice of the correct level mainly depends on the
following parameters:
1) The tyre/road grip (type of tyre, amount of tyre
wear, the road/track surface, weather conditions,
etc.).
2) The rider's experience and sensitivity: expert
riders can tackle a lift-up in trying to reduce the
stopping distance to a minimum, while less
expert riders are recommended to use setting 3,
that will help them keeping the motorcycle more
stable even in emergency braking.
