4.5.3 Taking a passive breath sample
False-positive results
Alcohol residues that are still present, for example from a disinfection,
may distort the result.
When measuring without a mouthpiece the breathing air may also
mix with the ambient air, as a result of which the breathing air will be
diluted and therefore the measured concentration will be less than the
concentration in the breathing air.
In the case of the passive breath sample, sampling is manually
activated by the user of the device. This means that use is possible
even with subjects who are not very cooperative, are not able to blow
into the mouthpiece when asked or are not able to provide a sufficient
breath sample.
To take a passive breath sample:
1. Hold the ready device without the mouthpiece in the air to be
analyzed.
2. To trigger the measurement, briefly press the
button and do not
hold it down.
3. Wait until the analysis is completed.
4.5.3.1 Reading the result
In this measurement mode the result is displayed as text. A notice is
also displayed. The notice
PASSIVE
indicates that the breath sample
was taken in this measurement mode.
The following results are possible:

No alcohol detected (see the fold-out page, Figure B: 8). The
display
NO ALC.
appears. In addition, the green indication lights
up. Press the
button to continue with the next measurement.
