have valves. Depending on weight distribution fuel is fed from either the
port or starboard, forward or aft, and returned to the same tank.
We usually start by feeding from the port aft tank first (fuel as well as
water) because Lioness fully loaded is slightly heavier on the port side.
This extra weight comes from the galley, salon furniture, water heater and
master furniture all mounted on the port side.
After topping off fuel leave the port aft feed and port aft return lines open to
use from this tank first.
Filling Tanks
1.
Open the top and bottom site tube for the tank that is being filled.
2.
Fill the tank and monitor the site tube.
3.
The fuel fill lines feed directly into the tank, so you can use the high
speed pumps at most fuel docks. Monitor the fuel very closely and
monitor the fuel vents on the side of the hull.
4.
After fueling close the top and bottom site tube valves.
5.
In the aft tanks, 3 ½” on the site tube equals 50 gallons. On the
forward tanks, 9” equals 50 gallons.
Fuel Filters
1.
The main fuel filters have vacuum gauges mounted in the pilot house
which indicate when the filters are beginning to clog.
2.
If the gauge begins to get into the red zone, that filter will need to be
changed.
3.
To change filters:
A)
turn off the engine.
B)
Close the fuel valve at the manifold.
C)
Remove old filter cartridge (place in a zip lock).
D)
Install new cartridge (stowed in lazarette).
E)
With your finger, wet the “O” ring with diesel, righten top, open
fuel flow valve.
4.
Clean up any spilled fuel ASAP.
5.
Spare fuel filters are located in the lazzarette.
