Combining the ignition key with the remote control
For added convenience the existing ignition key can be combined into the front of the S4 Red or Green remote control.
These remotes also contain a special area to house most types of original equipment immobiliser transponder chips.
NOTE: Extra care should be taken if the existing ignition key contains an inbuilt transponder system designed to
immobilise the machine. Should the transponder chip be damaged or lost whilst removing it from the ignition key the
machine will not be able to be started and a replacement chipped key and possibly ignition ECU may have to be
purchased.
If you are in any doubt regarding the conversion, the techniques required for most manufacturers key types are detailed
on www.datatool.co.uk.
Datatool (UK) Ltd cannot be held responsible for damage to ignition keys or transponder chips.
Should the owner require a combined ignition key and remote control for the S4 C4 Yellow it is possible to purchase S4
C1 Red remote control and code it to the S4 Yellow alarm.
Please note that the following instructions are based on a basic key without a transponder chip. It is critical the
transponder chip is removed from the original key if it could be damaged during the conversion.
Have you considered the transponder chip?
1. Place the key vertically in the vice and cut down one side of the key in line with the
main body of the key blade.
If the metal section of key is cranked (Yamaha and Suzuki transponder keys) do not cut
the key but remove the plastic cover carefully with a chisel or knife.
2. The key should now look similar to the photo left.
Replace the key in the vice and cut the other side so the key
become parallel (see photo right).
The key should now be the same width as the main body of
the key blade along its full length. Remove any remaining
plastic from the key.
3. There are 2 sets of 3 types of conversion fillets within the alarm kit enabling most
keys to be converted. Each of these have a letter on them corresponding to the width
and depth of the recess:
B = Wide keys (e.g. Zadi type, Early Triumph. Aprilia, Scooters, etc)
C = Most narrow types (Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, early Honda)
D = Honda transponder keys
Datatool do not recommend the conversion of the Harley Davidson barrel type keys.
4. Place the cut key into the machine’s ignition barrel and position the appropriate
conversion fillet onto the key so the lock can be worked normally including any extra
action required to operate the steering lock.
Important:
When positioning the fillet also consider the extra width of the transmitter
itself, particularly if the machine is equipped with a transponder based immobiliser.
Check the position within the other locks too (e.g. seat).
5. Having selected the position of the fillet, carefully position it flat in the vice, taking
care not to damage the sides of the key.
It should be positioned so the fillet is against the vice and therefore cannot slide up the
key blade as per the photo.
6. Using a 2mm drill, drill through the hole in the centre of
the fillet enough to mark the position of the hole (see photo
left).
Remove the fillet and the key should be as photo right.
