Topping Foil Troubleshooting
Magnetic Stripe Problems
The printer uses the coercivity set using the LCD panel or Printer Manager, and the data format
set using the Printer Manager.
Problem
Probable Cause
Solution
The indent characters are
very light.
The indent ribbon is
loaded incorrectly or not
being taken up on rollers.
Load the indent ribbon correctly. Refer to
“Load the Indent Ribbon Cartridge”
for more information. Contact your
system administrator if the problem
continues.

The topping foil is very
light.
The topping foil is loaded
incorrectly.
Load the topping foil correctly.

The topper temperature
is not hot enough.
Contact your system administrator to adjust
the temperature of the topper mechanism.
Problem
Solution
Cards are not loaded
correctly.
Load ISO cards with the magnetic stripe (back side) facing
down and to the right. Refer to
Cards do not have a
magnetic stripe.
Load magnetic stripe cards in the input hopper. If the cards
have a magnetic stripe, check the quality of the cards. Change
card stock if needed.
The card has dirt or
damage on the magnetic
stripe.
Encode and send a new card to the printer. If an error message
displays indicating a magnetic stripe problem, run a cleaning
card to clean the magnetic stripe head. Refer to
