The VLT can be supplied with a chassis, NEMA 1 (IP 20, 21) or NEMA 12 (IP 54)
enclosure. These enclosures provides some degree of protection from falling dust
and water. Therefore, drives with a NEMA 1 (IP 20) and 12 (IP 54) enclosures should
be mounted indoors in a relatively clean and dry location. If the application requires
a NEMA 4 (IP 65) enclosure, the VLT can be placed inside a NEMA 4 cabinet. Other
cabinets can be used to protect the VLT if there are requirements for NEMA 4X or
NEMA 3R.
The chart above shows the International Protection (IP) standard for dust (the first
digit) and water (the second digit). Shown below is the approximate NEMA
equivalents to the IP standards
