Measure the overall thickness of the rear bearing
shims using a dial caliper. See Figure 6.11.

Record the measurement for future reference.
35.
Inspect the rear tapered roller bearing assembly for
damage or wear.
36.
Thoroughly clean the exposed portion (front) of the
drive shaft.
37.
Slowly
push
the drive shaft assembly rearward and
out of the transmission assembly.
NOTE:
The front tapered roller bearing should come out
with the drive shaft. If it did not, remove it from the
transmission housing.
NOTE:
Inspect the front tapered roller bearing for wear or
damage.

Inspect the drive shaft.
•
Check the operation of the one way clutch.

Remove the tine shaft worm gear.
39.
Remove the wheel shaft, worm gear, and neutral
assembly from the left side of the transmission. See
Figure 6.13.
