2.6.3 Evaluation Module / GPS Receiver Interface
To establish communication between the SBX-3 Evaluation Module and
your GPS receiver, you must connect the transmit pin of the primary
serial port of the SBX-3 engine to the receive pin of the GPS receiver.
You must also connect the signal return wires for communication.
Please note that the RS-422 interface level must have both positive and
negative signals connected in order to communicate. The transmit line
from the GPS engine to Port 0 of the SBX-3 does not need to be
connected unless the GPS engine is able to configure the SBX-3 using
NMEA commands.
You may connect the receive pin of the SBX-3 main serial port to the
transmit line of the GPS or communicating device, along with a signal
ground connection. This is required to command the SBX-3 within the
Evaluation Module remotely through the main port, if desired. Further
details related to the dual serial port feature of the SBX-3 is provided in
Section 3.5.
Figure 2-3 illustrates an RS-232C interface between:
•
The SBX-3 primary serial port (Port 0) and a GPS receiver
•
The SBX-3 secondary port and an external device used for configuration and
status monitoring.
