Accessories
WARNING: Since accessories, other than those
offered by CRAFTSMAN, have not been tested with
this product, use of such accessories with this tool
could be hazardous. To reduce the risk of injury, only
CRAFTSMAN recommended accessories should be used
with this product.
Meets CPSC Safety Requirements
CRAFTSMAN Mowers conform to the safety standards of
the American National Standards Institute, and the U.S.
Consumer Product Safety Commission. The blade turns when
the blade motor is running.
Corrosion (Fig. A)
Fertilizers and other garden chemicals contain agents which
greatly accelerate the corrosion of metals. If you mow in areas
where fertilizers or chemicals have been used, the mower
should be cleaned immediately afterward as follows:

5 to turn mower off and remove battery
and safety key. Wipe all exposed parts with a damp cloth.
CAUTION:
Do not pour or spray water on the mower
in an attempt to clean it. Do not store the tool on or
adjacent to fertilizers or chemicals. Such storage can
cause rapid corrosion.
Cleaning (Fig. A)
WARNING: Blow dirt and dust out of all air vents with
clean, dry air at least once a week. To minimize the risk
of eye injury, always use ANSI Z87.1 (CAN/CSA Z94.3)
approved eye protection and NIOSH/OSHA/MSHA
approved respiratory protection when performing this.
WARNING: Never use solvents or other harsh
chemicals for cleaning the non‑metallic parts of the
tool. These chemicals may weaken the plastic materials
used in these parts. Use a cloth dampened only with
water and mild soap. Never let any liquid get inside the
tool; never immerse any part of the tool into a liquid.
Release bail handle 5 to turn mower off, let the blade come
to a stop and then remove the battery packs and safety key.
Clean out any clippings which may have accumulated on the
underside of the deck. Do not spray water or other liquids.
After several uses, check all exposed fasteners for tightness.
Blade Balancing (Fig. Q)
Check balance of the blade 28 by placing center hole in
the blade over a nail or round screwdriver 32 , clamped
horizontally in a vise 30 . If either end of the blade rotates
downward, file along the sharp edge of that dropping end.
Blade is properly balanced when neither end drops.
4. Wear proper eye protection and gloves and be careful
not to cut yourself.
5. Carefully file the cutting edges of the blade with a
fine tooth file 31 (not included) or sharpening stone
(not included), maintaining the angle of the original
cutting edge.
6. Check balance of blade. See instructions for Blade Balancing .
7. Replace blade on mower and tighten securely.
Blade Sharpening
KEEP BLADE SHARP FOR BEST MOWER PERFORMANCE. A
DULL BLADE DOES NOT CUT GRASS CLEANLY.
WARNING: Use gloves and proper eye protection while
removing, sharpening, and installing blade. Ensure that
safety key and battery pack are removed.
Sharpening the blade twice during a mowing season is
usually sufficient under normal circumstances. Sand causes
the blade to dull quickly. If your lawn has sandy soil, more
frequent sharpening may be required.
REPlACE BEnT OR
DAMAgED BlADE iMMEDiATElY.
When Sharpening the Blade:
• Make sure blade remains balanced.
• Sharpen blade at the original cutting angle.
• Sharpen cutting edges on both ends of blade, removing
equal amounts of material from both ends.
To Sharpen Blade in a Vise (Fig. P)
1. Be sure the bail handle is released, the blade has stopped
and safety key and battery packs are removed before
removing the blade.
2. Remove blade from mower. See instructions for
Removing and Installing Blade .
3. Secure blade 28 in a vise 30 .
removing/installing attachments or accessories.
An accidental start‑up can cause injury.
1. Cut a piece of 2" x 4" wood 23 (about 2 feet long)
(610 mm) to keep blade from turning when removing
the flange nut
24 .
WARNING:
Use gloves and proper eye protection.
Turn the mower on its side. Be careful of sharp edges
of blade.
2. Position wood and unscrew flange nut counterclockwise
with an 18 mm wrench 25 as shown in Fig. M.
3. Remove square metal blade spacer 26 , square plastic
blade insulator 27 and blade 28 as shown in Fig. N.
The blade support 29 should not be removed. Examine
all pieces for damage and replace if necessary.
4. Install sharpened or new blade on shoulder of the blade
fan as shown in Fig. M–O.
nOTE: When replacing sharpened or new blade on
shoulder of blade fan, make sure the “GRASS SIDE” on the
blade will be facing the ground when the mower is returned
to its normal upright position.
5. Install the plastic blade insulator on the blade such
that the raised lips on one side engage the edges of
the blade.
6. Install the blade spacer so that it sits inside the raised lips
on the other side of the blade insulator. Be sure to align
the flats in the hole of the blade spacer with the flats of
the shaft, rotating the blade and blade insulator together
as necessary.
7. Position piece of wood to keep blade from turning as
shown in Fig. O. Install flange nut with the flange against
the blade spacer and securely tighten the blade with
an 18 mm wrench.
