•  If you have reason to assume that safe operation is no longer possible, disconnect

the device immediately and secure it against inadvertent operation. It can be

assumed that safe operation is no longer possible if:

 - the device is visibly damaged,
 - the device no longer works
 - the unit was stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time or
 - if it has been subjected to considerable stress in transit.

•  Never switch the device on immediately after having taken it from a cold to a warm

environment. Condensation that forms might destroy your device. Allow the device

to reach room temperature before switching it on.

•  Never disassemble the product! There is a risk of a fatal electric shock.
•  Do not carelessly leave the packaging material lying around since this may become

a dangerous toy for children.

•  The product is only suited for dry indoor rooms (not bathrooms or similar damp

interiors). The device must not get wet or damp. There is a risk of a fatal electric

shock.

•  On industrial sites the accident prevention regulations of the association of the

industrial workers’ society for electrical equipment and utilities must be followed.

•  Handle the product with care. It can be damaged through impact, blows, or

accidental drop, even from a low height.

•  Please also observe the attached detailed operating instructions.
•  The mains outlet must be located near to the device and be easily accessible.
•  Never pull the mains plug from the socket by pulling at the cable. Always pull it from

the mains socket using the intended grips.

•  Unplug the mains plug from the mains socket if you do not use the device for an

extended period of time.

•  Disconnect the mains plug from the mains socket in thunderstorms for reasons

of safety.

•  Make sure that the mains cable is not squeezed, bent, damaged by sharp edges

or put under mechanical stress. Avoid excessive thermal stress on the mains cable

from extreme heat or cold. Do not modify the mains cable. Otherwise the mains

cable may be damaged. A damaged mains cable can cause a deadly electric shock.

•  Do not touch the mains cable if it is damaged. First, power down the respective

mains socket (e.g. via the respective circuit breaker) and then carefully pull the

mains plug from the mains socket. Never use the product if the mains cable is

damaged.

•  A damaged mains cable may only be replaced by the manufacturer, a workshop

commissioned by the manufacturer or a similarly qualified person, so as to prevent

any danger.

•  Never plug in or unplug the mains plug when your hands are wet.

b) Miscellaneous

•  Consult an expert when in doubt about operation, safety or connection of the

device.

•

Maintenance,  modifications  and  repairs  are  to  be  performed  exclusively  by  an

expert or at a qualified shop.

•  If you have questions which remain unanswered by these operating instructions,

contact our technical support service or other technical personnel.

GW-INSTEK AFG-2225

Arbitrary function generator

Version  06/14

Item no. 630771

Intended use

The function generator generates signals with different waveforms as well as adjustable

amplitudes. The display shows the functions. Due to the digital synthesiser the output signals

are highly precise and frequency-stable.
The measuring is conducted via BNC-connectors.
The maximum measuring voltage indicated on the device must never be exceeded. Use divider

probes if necessary.
The device should only be connected to and operated on an earthed socket (Schuko socket)

of the public AC power supply.
Any use other than that described above could lead to damage to this product and involves the

risk of short circuits, fire, electric shock, etc.
The product must not be modified or converted, and the casing must not be opened.

Measurement in a dump location or outdoors or under ambient environment conditions is not

permitted. Unfavourable ambient conditions are:

 - Wet conditions or high air humidity
 -

Dust and flammable gases, vapours or solvent,

 -

Thunderstorms or similar conditions such as strong electrostatic fields etc.

Always observe the safety notes included in these operating instructions.
This quick guide explains safety measures to make working with the device as safe as possible.

The individual functions of the device are described in more detail in the enclosed operating

manual.

Safety instructions

Read the operating instructions carefully and especially observe the safety

information. If you do not follow the safety instructions and information

on proper handling in this manual, we assume no liability for any resulting

personal injury or damage to property. Such cases will invalidate the warranty/

guarantee.
a) Persons / Product

•

The  unauthorised  conversion  and/or  modification  of  the  product  is  inadmissible

because of safety and approval reasons (CE).

•  The construction of the product corresponds to protection class 1. Only a correct

earthed mains socket (115 / 230 V/AC) of the public power supply should be used.

•  Measuring devices and devices connected to the power supply should be kept out

of reach of children. Be thus especially careful when children are around.

•  First, connect the BNC-output of the measuring line to the generator, then connect

the probe to the electric circuit to be measured. When the measuring is completed,

please  disconnect  the  measuring  contacts  first  before  disconnecting  the  BNC

output of the probe from the generator.

•  Take particular care when dealing with voltages exceeding 25 V/AC or 35 V/DC!

Even at such voltages you can receive a life-threatening electric shock when you

come into contact with electric wires.

•  Prior to each measurement, check your instrument and its measuring leads for

damage. Never carry out any measurements if the protecting insulation is defective

(torn, ripped off etc.)

•  To avoid an electric shock, make sure not to touch the connections/measuring

points to be measured neither directly nor indirectly during measurement.

•  Never touch the probes outside of the marked handling area during a measurement.

There is the risk of a fatal electric shock.

•  Do not use the device shortly before or after a thunderstorm (lightning! / high-

energy overvoltages!). Make sure that your hands, shoes, clothing, the floor, the

measuring device and/or measuring lines, the circuits and also parts of it are

always dry.

•

Do not use the product within rooms or in bad ambient conditions where flammable

gases, vapours or explosive dust may be present or are present.

•  Avoid operation near:

 -

strong magnetic or electromagnetic fields

 - transmitter aerials or HF generators,
 - Since this could affect the measurement.

•

Only use measuring lines or equipment harmonised with the specifications of this

oscilloscopes for measuring. Only dual or specially insulated measuring equipment

may be used (e.g. fully insulated BNC adapters, etc.)
