2.1
Perform Optical Power Test
The OMM Series meters may be used to perform optical power measurements at any point within the
fiber network. To perform the test:
1.
Clean the OMM fiber connector.
2.
Disconnect fiber to be tested from the network. Clean connectors.
3.
Connect fiber to be tested to OMM fiber connector.
4.
Turn on the OMM by pressing the power key.
5.
Press the Power Meter wavelength key until the desired wavelength to be measured is displayed.
6.
Optical power level will be displayed.
7.
If measurement is to be saved, press and hold the Load key for > 2 seconds.
a.
File name/number will be displayed briefly at bottom center of display.
8.
Turn off the meter.
9.
Disconnect the tested fiber, clean connections, and reconnect to fiber network.
2.2
TWIN Mode
When the ComSonics’ OLS in the multimeter is paired with a ComSonics’ OPM, they can be operated in
Twin Mode. This allows the OLS in the multimeter to send a coded message to the OPM indicating the
correct wavelength. To activate Twin Mode:
1.
Connect the fiber to be tested to the Laser source output connector on the OMM.
2.
Connect the optical power meter to be used to the opposite end of the cable to be tested.
3.
Set the desired output wavelength using the OMM Laser source output selector key.
4.
If desired, the CW modulation can be used to identify the correct fiber first; however, once the
TWIN key is pushed, the tone will be disabled. A modulated tone and the TWIN functionality
cannot operate at the same time.
5.
Press the OMM TWIN key.
6.
Place the OPM in use in the TWIN mode.
a.
The wavelength of the Laser Source output will be displayed in the top left corner of the
OPM display.
b.
The “TWIN” symbol will also appear on the LCD screen of the OPM
7.
Change the OMM laser source wavelength to perform all tests required. Changing the laser
source wavelength will automatically update the corresponding settings on the power meter.
