Preparing the Exchange Server for the Backup Agent 

Creating a Mailbox for the Backup Agent Service Account 

To create an Exchange mailbox for the Backup Agent Service Account: 

1.  Choose Microsoft Exchange Administrator from the Microsoft Exchange 

menu bar.  The Microsoft Exchange Administrator dialog opens: 

2.  In the Exchange Browser, place your cursor on Recipients and select File, 

New Mailbox.   

3.  Check the properties for the new mailbox and enter a unique alias name for 

the mailbox.  The alias name must not be a prefix of any other mailbox.  The 
Administrator mailbox can have “Admin” for the alias. 

 

Assigning Permissions for the Service Account 

You must specify the appropriate permissions for the branch of the organization 
tree containing this mailbox.  Specify the Service Account Administrative 
Permission at the following levels of the organization tree:
