SCSI Device Installation
Guidelines
The following guidelines should be noted when adding SCSI devices:
■
As a general rule, a maximum of seven devices may be added per
controller. Because each server has different physical and configuration
constraints, the maximum number of SCSI devices may vary for your
server.
■
The configuration switches on each hard drive must be set to the SCSI
ID of the bay (Bay 0 = SCSI ID 0) that it will occupy.
■
If only one SCSI hard drive is used, it should be installed in the lowest-
numbered bay.
■
Be sure to remove all terminating jumpers from third-party SCSI
devices.
■
Run System Configuration Utility after installing a drive.
Determining SCSI Cabling
Requirements
Answer all of the following questions about the mass storage device you will
be installing to determine SCSI information requirements.
1.
Will the SCSI cabling need be internal or external. See the appropriate
internal cabling or external cabling section in this chapter.
2.
Will the Integrated Wide-Ultra SCSI-3 Controller be used? If yes, see
the following section, “Internal SCSI Cabling of the Integrated Wide-
Ultra SCSI-3 Controller,” for SCSI cabling instructions.
3.
Will a separate SCSI controller expansion board be used? If yes, see to
option documentation supplied with the controller and to the cabling
tables that follow for SCSI cabling instructions.
