ATTACH THE CHORD PURLIN
The chord purlin runs
on top of the rafter chords
the length
of the shelter. Attach the chord purlin to the end rafter using
a pipe strap. Use a cross-connector (#102548) to secure
the chord purlin to all the inside rafters.
Complete these steps:
1. Mark the center of the end rafter chord and measure
8' along the chord as shown. Install a pipe strap at that
location
on top of the chord
(if not installed earlier).
Do
not tighten the pipe strap at this time.
2. Move to the remaining end rafter and mark the chord
purlin position on that rafter.
3. Take a chalk line and stretch it end-to-end across the
tops of the rafter chords and snap it to mark the chord
purlin position.
4. Position a cross-connector (#102548) over the rafter
chord on the first interior rafter and remove the first two
sections of the remaining purlin assembly.
5. Insert the purlin through the pipe strap (#QH1070) on
the end rafter chord and through the cross-connector
on the rafter chord of the inside rafter.
REMEMBER:
The chord purlin runs

of the rafter

6. Position the purlin as needed and tighten the cross-
connector bolts. Align with the chalk marks.

7. Return to the end rafter and verify that approximately
half-an-inch of the chord purlin extends through the
pipe strap. Move the rafter chord if needed and tighten
the Tek screws that secure the pipe strap to the rafter
chord.
REMEMBER:
To prevent damage to the end panels, do
not allow the chord purlin to extend beyond the outer
edge of the rafter chord.

8. Tighten the pipe strap and install a Tek screw through
the pipe strap and into the chord purlin.
9. Repeat the above steps for the remaining inside rafter
assemblies and work toward the remaining end of the
shelter.
10. At the remaining end rafter, repeat the steps to secure
the chord purlin to the rafter chord of that rafter.
11. With the chord purlin installed, secure each purlin pipe
splice using a Tek screw.
12. After the final purlin is attached to the end rafter,
continue with squaring the assembled frame.
