BOILING BRAKE FLUID TESTER
CONTENT
The brake fluid is designed to have a high boiling point to withstand the high temperatures
generated by braking on the shoe.
Silicone-based brake fluids have a major disadvantage because their chemical composition allows
them to absorb moisture. This moisture can come from air (through the vent in the master cylinder
cap) or from the brake rubber.
When the level of moisture in the brake fluid increases, the boiling point gels and the fluid can
safely perform its vital functions. This increases the risk of brake failure under difficult braking
conditions, such as towing, downhill, winding roads or high-speed braking.
Brake failure occurs when (the boiling point is reduced due to increased humidity) brake fluid boils
and turns to vapour. The brake pedal then becomes spongy, with dangerously reduced braking
action, or in the event of extreme failure, the brake pedal goes directly to the ground with no
braking action.
If you live in a very wet area, the brake fluid absorbs moisture more easily, causing the boiling point
to drop rapidly. We recommend changing the brake fluid every 20,000 km or every 2 years.
Rubber brake transmission fluid easily absorbs moisture to lower the boiling point of the transmitted
fluid, compared to fluid taken directly for testing.
Moisture enters the brake system through the tank cap, rubber brake hose, connectors, etc. In
fact, it is impossible to prevent moisture from entering. In one year, 2% of the moisture will be
increased in the brake system for most vehicles. Currently, there is only one method to remedy this
problem: use a double volume of brake fluid to flush and fill the brake system with an equal volume
respectively.
