10. Reconnect the smoke nozzle to the adapter cone when smoke is clearly coming
out of the smoke nozzle.
11. The system will be ready for leak testing within 2 minutes. Use a work light to
assist you.
12. After the leak test, press the on/off button again to stop smoke production.
Allow the unit to blow out any residual smoke.
13. Assemble the power cords and the smoke tube with the Velcro strips, clean the
cone of the inlet adapter before storing.
• Exhaust leakage test
Insert the cone adapter into the end of the exhaust pipe. If the car has a dual exhaust with
a crossover pipe, simply plug the other pipe with a cloth, tape or latex glove with an elastic
band.
This test is most effective when the exhaust system is cold. Small leaks are sometimes
plugged when the exhaust system warms up due to thermal expansion. A hot catalytic
converter can consume some of the smoke in front of the converter.
Remember that all tests are carried out with the engine off!
• Leaks under the dashboard
Most cars have a common suction line that runs from the dashboard to a suction source
under the hood. This line supplies vacuum to air conditioning and other vacuum operated
systems. Locate this line under the hood and disconnect it at its source. We will use this
line to check for leaks under the dashboard.
While pressure or smoke is being introduced into the vacuum supply line, observe the
outlet flow meter or pressure gauge. Press the air conditioning selector button to switch
from heating mode to ventilation, defrosting, etc. When this button is pressed, a change
in the flow meter or outlet pressure gauge reading will determine which system is leaking.
Set the heating/ventilation mode to the position that has identified a leak while searching
for the leak under the dashboard with a light. This method allows for a thorough inspection
of the system for leaks. - The inspection of the central locking system is carried out in the
same way. Access and activate the control solenoids while introducing smoke into the
system.
