Section 6. Emergency Starting, Towing and Lowering
The parking brake automatically applies.
How to manually release the parking brake :
WARNING
!
Block the drive wheels before attempting to release the
brake.
a. Remove the floor plate.
b. Prepare 27mm socket,
socket wrench, and long-
nose pliers.
c. Check positions of nut(2)
and cotter pin(1) of the park-
ing brake assembled on the
transmission.
d. Make use of long-nose pliers to remove cotter pin(1) first.
e. Turn the nut(2) clockwise by hand until it touches the cover.
f. Rotate the nut(2) one turn further clockwise with 27mm
socket wrench, the parking brake will be released.
Preparing the truck to return to service :
a. A trained forklift technician must reset the brake and prepare
the truck to return to service. Refer to the Service Manual 23-
6-3 page for details.
7. Transmission control is in neutral.
NOTICE
Department of Transportation approved towing equipment
may be available from your CLARK dealer.
8. Tow the disabled truck backward.
An operator must be on the
towed truck
. Tow the truck slowly. Careful towing is necessary
to prevent injury to personnel or damage to the truck. The truck
should be towed at a speed of less than 5 kph (3 mph) with a
driver in the seat. Do not lift the truck or any wheels off the floor
or ground while the truck is being towed.
