After adjusting the handlebars you need to adjust the
brake lever/shifter units. Release the Allen bolt at ei-
ther unit. Turn the levers relative to the handlebars.
Sit in the saddle and place your fingers on the brake
levers.
Check whether the back of your hand forms a
straight line with the line of your forearm
(a)
. Retight-
en the units with a torque wrench and do a twist test!
The brake levers need not be absolutely tight. In case
of a fall it is an advantage when the brake levers can
be turned.
G
Tighten all bolts with an Allen key by
applying little force until the upper and
the lower clamping slots of the handle-
bar clamp between face plate and stem body are
equal in width
(b)
. Tighten the bolts alternately
and in small increments with a torque wrench to
the lower value of the recommended torque val-
ues. The recommended torque values for 4-bolt-
stems are 5-6 Nm. In the case of 4-bolt-face
plates tighten the bolts evenly in a cross pattern.
G
Note that the bolted connections of
stem, handlebars, bar ends and brakes
have to be tightened to their specified
torques. Use a torque wrench and never ex-
ceed the maximum torque values! The torque
values are given in the chapter “Recommended
torque settings” in this translation of the original
CENTURION operating instructions as well as in
your comprehensive original CENTURION user
manual, directly on the components and/or in the
instructions of the component manufacturers on
the enclosed CENTURION CD-ROM.
Bar ends and multi-position handlebars give you ad-
ditional ways of gripping the handlebars.
G
Be aware that the distance you need
to stop your bike increases, when you
are riding with your hands on bar ends
(c+d)
or on multi-position handlebars. The brake
levers are not always within easy reach.
G
Never fix bar ends in vertical position or
with their ends pointing rearwards as
this would increase the risk of injury in
the event of an accident.
A
If you want to mount multi-position han-
dlebars on your CENTURION pedelec
or bar ends to the aluminum handlebars
of your CENTURION pedelec, inform yourself in
advance whether your CENTURION pedelec is
approved for them. Contact your CENTURION
dealer, if necessary, before mounting.
