Actuator and Motor
The actuator is driven by a servo motor under closed loop control. The motor moves a ball screw-
driven carriage attached to the load cell and test fixtures. The actuator has a peak velocity of
20mm/s. To prevent excessive velocities and accelerations, the control software will issue
warnings if entries in the
Set Parameter Editor
result in accelerations or velocities that are out of
range. Excessive thrust loads should only occur if mechanical interference obstructs the
movement of the actuator. It is advisable to reset the actuators occasionally. The acceleration
and velocity parameters can be modified in the
Advanced Settings
window if necessary for your
materials or experiments (see the
Advanced System Settings Dialogue
section for more
details).
If the Emergency Stop (E-Stop) button has been depressed, power to the actuator will be cut. The
motor carriage can be moved manually if necessary. However, the position of the motor will be
compromised, and an actuator reset will be required before executing another test.
