Configuring Settings

Before getting started, take a few moments to think about and write
down how you want to configure the optional settings and the personal
information settings described in this section. After deciding the settings
you want, use the procedure under “To configure optional settings and
personal information settings” to configure them.

Optional Settings

You can configure the following optional settings to suit your particular
needs.

Voice Exercise Advice

(Initial Default: ON)

When turned on, Voice Exercise Advice uses a simulated human voice
to let you know when certain events occur. Each voice message is
repeated twice. See “Voice Messages

 for more information.

All Voice Exercise Advice messages are in English only.

Exercise Mode

 (Initial Default: BURNING)

Use this setting to specify an exercise mode, and the target range you
want to maintain.

If you select “BURNING” or “AEROBIC”, the target pulse range is set
automatically in accordance with your personal information settings.

If you select “MANUAL

, you can specify the lower limit and the upper

limit of the target pulse range you want to use.

Energy Unit

(Initial Default: kcal)

Use this setting to specify either kilocalories (“kcal

) or kilojoules (“kJ”) as

the energy unit.

Personal Information Settings

The Pulse Monitor uses personal information to calculate the preset
target pulse ranges that are best for you when “BURNING” or
“AEROBIC” is selected as the exercise mode. Make sure that you input
the correct personal information before exercising with the Pulse Monitor
for the first time. Also, you should remember to adjust the information
periodically to make sure that it is always up to date.

Resting Pulse Rate

(Initial Default: 60bpm)

Your resting pulse rate is the number of times your heart beats per
minute while you are at rest. The best time to take your resting pulse
rate is first thing in the morning, after you wake up. While relaxed and
lying or sitting down, find your pulse on your wrist and count how many
times your heart beats during a 15 second period. Then simply multiply
by four to get your resting pulse rate.
Your resting pulse rate is affected by your age, your overall health and
fitness, and by other factors.

Weight Unit

(Initial Default: kg)

Use this setting to specify the unit of measurement you want to use
when specifying your weight, below.

When you plan to perform this type of exercise:

Light aerobics (preset target pulse range)

Heavy aerobics (preset target  pulse range)

Exercise at an intensity level (target pulse range)
specified by you
