Network
The Network Interconnect diagram opposite details the network cabling necessary
for basic system power up. Note that the order of the BNC network connections is
not important.
• Connect together the devices in the rack as shown, using 2m BNC Ethernet Cables
(SSL Part No. 66C62620) and 50
Ω
T-Pieces (SSL Part No. 32TKU5CC), or 2m RJ45
to RJ45 Cables (SSL Part No. 66C66802), as appropriate. Note that the two BNC
NETWORK
connectors must be connected (see opposite), and that RJ45 port 6
must be reserved for the rack-to-console connection (see below).
• Connect together the devices in the control room, also using 2m BNC Ethernet
Cables and 50
Ω
T-Pieces or 2m RJ45 to RJ45 Cables as appropriate. RJ45 port 6
must be reserved for the rack-to-console connection. Typically, the following units
may be connected to the network within the control room:
• The console control surface interface (via the console NETWORK connector -
see diagram on Page 20)
• The Super MO Drive (although this is shown installed in the rack in the
diagram opposite)
• KeyPad (see Page 37) - This also connects into the network via a 10baseT
cable, normally via the console connector panel as shown opposite
• Connect together the above rack and console networks via the processor rack and
console rear panel RJ45 connectors labelled 6, as shown opposite, using the 15m
RJ45 to RJ45 Cable (SSL Part No. 66C66801) supplied. Note that the connectors
labelled 6 must be used for this connection.
• Fit a 50
Ω
Terminator (SSL Part No. 32TKB5TC - 4 supplied) at each end of both
BNC networks (one local to the rack and one local to the console).
• The RJ45 NETWORK connector on the console rear panel connects to the RJ45
connector labelled 5 using the short RJ45 link cable supplied (see opposite). Four
RJ45 console ports are available for the connection of KeyPads (see page 37) or
RIOs.
• If additional Ethernet devices are specified as part of your order (e.g. PatchBays,
KeyPads), then appropriate additional cabling and accessories will be supplied.
On the next page you will find detailed rules which must be followed when making
the network connections.
