4. System Setup
On the following pages you will find interconnection diagrams for each category of
cabling within the SL 9000 J System. The SL 9000 J is a powerful system, capable of
being configured in a great variety of ways. The accompanying diagrams are
therefore intended to suggest typical, rather than mandatory, interconnections, from
which you can develop the optimum configuration for your intended installation.
The notes that accompany the interconnection diagrams also refer to the cables
required, listing them by function and SSL Part Number.
Making Connections
All SL 9000 J systems are factory preset for their destination power requirements.
Check the voltage setting and fuse rating as described on Pages 16-17, and adjust as
appropriate before applying power to any of the units.
Do not apply power to the SL 9000 J until installation is complete!
Grounding
The SL 9000 J is shipped with Analogue and Digital grounds connected to the chassis.
Depending on the current grounding methods used in your studio, various ground
studs may need to be isolated from or connected to the Studio technical ground.
At the console end there are 3 ground studs:
•
Digital Ground
This should be connected to the Green isolated Ground stud
at the rear of the processor rack using the cable provided
(SSL Part No. 66C93111 - 10m, or 66C93116 - 15m).
•
Technical Earth
This should be connected to your Studio Technical Earth
using the cable provided (SSL Part No. 66C93110 - 10m, or
66C93115 - 15m).
•
Chassis
This is a safety earth for the console chassis metalwork.
At the Rack there are 2 separate ground references:
•
Mains Earth
This is connected via the mains plugs of the various power
supply units; it also connects the chassis metalwork of these
units to earth.
THE MAINS EARTH MUST ALWAYS BE CONNECTED !
•
Processor Ground
This is the Green Stud on the rear of the Processor rack. This
should be connected to the console Digital Ground Stud (see
above).
