15.6 Note for Customers Who Cut Their Own Paper

Customers who cut their own paper may experience:

An increase of paper dust in the machine

Shortening the life of the machine’s fixing rollers due to excessive wear from the

rough side of the cut paper

Paper jams due to paper dust getting into areas of the machine where it is not

meant to be

 Improper paper feeding

 Paper registration inaccuracies

Follow the precautions below to minimize the above issues:

Have a process in place to regularly make sure that the cutting blades are

sharpened, and that cuts are made as clean as possible.

Place the paper with the factory mill cut sides facing to the right (leading edge),

and to the front of the machine.

Pay special attention to the paper grain orientation when cutting it. For more

information on paper grain, see

“Paper Grain and Curl,”

 on p. 69.

The best results for consistency and front to back registration are obtained by

using factory mill cut, digital compatible paper.

15.7 Media Feed Locations

As with all Canon copiers, certain feed locations within the device are capable of
feeding specific media sizes and weights.

When considering media, make sure the media is within the proper size and weight
parameters of the feed location. Once the desired media is selected the
appropriate feed location must be selected.

IMPORTANT

If the room temperature where the machine and paper are located is below 65°F

(18°C), the imagePRESS must slow down to account for the low paper
temperature, and ensure image quality; especially when using heavy paper. The
machine’s productivity can be improved per paper source by setting the Adjust
Fixing of Paper Sources mode in Device Management Settings in System
Settings (from the Additional Functions screen) to ‘Standard’, instead of ‘Fixing
Priority’. However, any productivity gains achieved may affect the image quality.
Image quality is not affected, however, if the customer is printing text only.

The Adjust Fixing of Paper Sources mode does not have to be set if the paper

temperature is between 68°F to 80.6°F (20°C to 27°C).

The Adjust Fixing of Paper Sources mode is only available if it is enabled in the

Service Mode.
