The AF frame indicates the area of the composition on which the
camera focuses. You can set the AF frame in the following ways.

Face
Detect
You can have the camera automatically
detect the position of a face and use this data
to set the focus and exposure* while shooting.
In addition, the camera will meter the subject
so that the face is correctly illuminated when
the flash fires. If a face is not detected,
shooting will take place with [Center].
* Only in evaluative metering mode (p. 115).
Center
The camera fixes the AF frame at the center.
This is convenient for making sure the focus is
exactly where you want it.
