Caster Adjustment
(X mx Only)
The caster angle is the angle between
the vertical and the steering knuckle
pivot axis in a the longitudinal axis.
When a higher caster angle is set, the
knuckles tend more to bring the front
wheels to a straight line than with a
lower angle. Also, when a higher cast-
er angle is set, a greater force is re-
quired to steer the vehicle than with a
lower angle.
The front knuckles caster angle is fac-
tory preset at 6°. It is possible to adjust
it degree by degree from 3° to 10°.
The caster angle variation is obtained
by moving shims in front or behind the
upper suspension arms bearing hous-
ings.
WARNING
Adjust LH and RH caster angles to
the same value.
NOTE:
The caster, camber and steer-
ing alignment (toe) are interrelated.
Start from the factory settings and cus-
tomize each adjustment one at a time.
Correct the other adjustments if need-
ed.
To adjust, proceed as follows
on both
sides
:
1. Remove wheel, see procedure in
the
MAINTENANCE INFORMA-
TION
section.
2. Keeping the vehicle on jack stands,
remove the bolts retaining the up-
per suspension arm to the frame.
