Media and Disk Configuration Rules
The system base unit has five device areas. These are located vertically, on the right of the
front side of the system.
•
Area 1 hosts up to two 1.6 inch media drives
•
Area 2 may host either up to two 1.6 inch media drives or up to three1 inch hard disk
drives
•
Areas 3, 4 and 5 may host up to three 1 inch hard disk drives each.
A disk cage is required to install hard disk drives. Each disk cage occupies one area. The
connection to the SCSI bus is done through the disk cage back planes.
No disk cage is required to install media drives. They are installed with their mounting kit on
the unit chassis and directly connected to the SCSI bus.
The system supports ULTRA-2/LVD disk devices (Low Voltage Differential), running at
10000 RPM (Revolutions Per Minute).
The system base unit provides two native SCSI busses.
The first bus, ULTRA/SE (Single Ended), SCSI-0, controls media drives installed in Area1
(and Area 2, if any).
The second bus, ULTRA-2/LVD, SCSI-1, is used to control disks installed in Area 5 and
Area 4.
SCSI hard disk drives can also be controlled by additional SCSI controller cards.
