The SMART X2S’ Archival and Deletion Routine
The data CD, burned at the end of data collection, is a copy of a folder on the SMART X2S’ internal
hard drive. An instrument administrator can easily retrieve any sample in the SMART X2S’ history of
operation—until the hard drive becomes nearly full.
Once the hard drive is nearly full, the system automatically removes files each time a new sample is
collected. It goes through each sample folder—oldest to newest—and removes enough frame files to
ensure that a new sample has enough space for data collection. If the free space is still insufficient, the
system goes through each sample folder (again, oldest to newest) to remove all remaining traces of the
sample until there is enough space for the new sample’s data.
Typically, this means that, when the SMART X2S’ hard drive is nearly full, it removes the oldest sample
to make room for the newest.
The number of samples that can be stored is dependent upon the hard drive’s storage capacity, and is
subject to change without notice.
