Perform the following ignition system tests when engine is hard to start to determine if the cause is in the
ignition or other system.
START
Check spark condition
(Set tester gap at 5/16)
Check if the spark plug is in good condition
(Refer to
Disconnect the engine stop switch
(Green & Black or Blue/Red & Black)
Check ignition coil resistance
(Refer to page 97).
Primary: 0.17 – 0.23

Secondary: 4.8 – 7.2 k

Check spark plug cap for any evidence of
high-tension leak.
Check spark plug cap resistance.
Cap resistance: 8 – 12 k
Ω
Check power source coil resistance.
(Refer to page 95).
Coil resistance: 20.0 – 31.0

Check the crankshaft position sensor
(Refer to page 96).
