Service and maintenance
routines on the motor
See the enclosed operating instruc-
tions of the motor manufacturer.
Servicing the motor
In order to ensure a trouble-free
running of the motor, the lawn
mower should be serviced by an
authorised distributorship work-
shop every 2 - 3 years (re-set
valves etc.)
Maintenance of the
wheel tractor drive
Figure 12
(except 40 B and 40 B OHC)
The gear runs maintenance- and
service-free in an enclosed oil
sump. The wheel tractor drive can
be adjusted in case of late engage-
ment of the clutch or slipping clutch.
To effect such an adjustment, the
locknut (Fig. 12, Pos. 1) is slack-
ened by one complete turn and
the locknut (Fig. 12, Pos. 2) is
adjusted whilst holding the clutch
cable eyelet bolt (Fig. 12, Pos. 3).
This procedure should be repeated
as often as necessary until the
clutch no longer sli
ps.
Care
Contaminating dirt and grass cut-
tings residue are most easily re-
moved immediately after mowing.
The sparking plug connector should
be detached
and the machined
tipped over to the side opposite
the sparking plug and/over car-
burettor side. The machine can
then be cleaned by brush and
wiper cloth.
A
The gasoline driven mower
should not be cleaned
with running water and, in par-
ticular not with a water pressure
jet cleaner.
Storage
A
Caution ! The motor should
be allowed to cool down
before storing the machine in en-
closed spaces.
The gasoline driven mower should
never be stored with motor spirit
in the fuel tank within a room,
in which motor spirit fumes might
come into contact with naked
flames or might catch fire.
The machine should be stored in
an enclosed space. To save space,
the handlebar frame can be folded
up. For this purpose, the lower
joint-tensioning grip (Fig. 1, Pos. 2)
should be slackened and the bars
drawn out of the latches sideways.
The transom tightening grip ( Fig. 1,
Pos. 1) should be slackened at the
folding point and the upper part
of the transom folded down to the
rear.
A
Caution ! When folding up,
care should be taken to
ensure that the Bowden cables are
not buckled.
Storage hints
(over the Winter months)
In cases of motors which are not
used for more than 30 days, first
the fuel tank should be emptied
and any residual motor spirit
soaked up with a non-fluffy cloth.
The motor should then be started
and run until it dies for lack of fuel.
The sparking plug should be un-
screwed and removed. 1 table-
spoon of motor oil should be trick-
led into the cylinder. The motor
should then be turned by slowly
pulling on the starter handle in
order to distribute the motor oil.
The sparking plug can then be
replaced.
After dirt and grass cuttings residue
has been thoroughly removed,
we recommend cleaning the lawn
mower with a preservative agent.
General
Malfunctioning mostly only occurs
when the machine is not treated
properly, maintained or serviced.
The following table includes the
most likely malfunctions to occur
and their remedying.
In cases of further disruptions,
the assistance of the nearest Brill
Service Station should be ob-
tained.
A
Caution ! Repairs that re-
quire technical knowledge
should only be carried out by an
authorised specialist dealer.
A
Caution ! For safety reasons,
only original spare parts
of the manufacturer are to be used
or those approved by the manu-
facturer.
We would draw attention to the
fact that, under the product liability
legislation, we are not liable for
loss or damage caused by our
products when such are caused by
improper repairs or when during
an exchange of parts such parts are
used which are not manufactured
by or approved by ourselves, and
the repairs are not carried out by
an authorised service station of
the manufacturer or an authorised
specialist dealer. The same restric-
tions also apply for supplementary
and accessory parts.
