Fuel should be topped-up before
starting the motor. Whilst the motor
is running or the machine is hot,
the fuel tank cap should not be
removed nor fuel topped-up.
Should fuel have spilled over, no
attempt should be made to start
the motor. Instead, the machine
should be moved away from the
area contaminated by the fuel.
All attempts to start the motor
should be avoided until the spilled
fuel has evaporated.
Should it be required to empty the
fuel tank, this should be carried
out only outdoors.
The fuel tank and/or other tank
caps and fittings should be replaced
upon damage, for safety reasons.
In order to avoid fire hazard,
the motor / exhaust and the area
around the fuel tank should be
kept free of grass cuttings, leaves
or leaking grease (oil).
Hand and feet should not come
into contact with the internal hous-
ing and the grass ejector mecha-
nism when the motor is running.
4.1. Installing the starter cord
Figures 1 and 3
Press down the safety bar (Fig. 3,
Pos.
1
) to release the motor brake.
Pull out the starter handle on the
motor and install the starter cord
from below in the holder on the
rod as per Fig. 1, Pos. 3.
4.2. Setting the cutting height
Figure 4
The cutting height can be altered
stagelessly and centrally with the
central adjustment screw (Fig. 4,
Pos. 1).
The height setting can be read
off via the digital display in 5 mm
divisions (Fig. 4, Pos. 2).
A
Caution ! The cutting height
should only be adjusted
when the motor has been stopped.
The deepest cutting height should
be adjusted so that the cutters
of the cutting unit do not touch
any unevenness in the level of
the ground.
4.3. Adjusting the height
of the handlebar frame
The lawn mower is equipped
with height adjustable handlebar
frame, which can be individually
adjusted to the height of the body.
To adjust the height, the joint-
tensioning grips (Fig. 1, Pos. 2)
should be slackened and the
handlebar allowed to engage
the latch at the required height.
The two joint-tensioning grips
should then again be tightened
(Fig. 1, Pos. 2).
4.4. Starting the motor
with the pull-cord

When the motor is cold, the ac-
celerator lever should be set to
the START and /or CHOKE position
respectively. When the motor is
warm, the MAX position should
be used
(Fig. 7, Pos. 2).
The safety stirrup (Fig. 3, Pos.
1
)
should be pressed down to the
handlebar.
The starter grip should be lightly
pulled (Fig. 3, Pos.
2
) until the
starter engages. The motor is
started by speedy pulling out the
starter grip. The starter grip should
be returned gradually to its initial
position.
After starting the motor cold, the
accelerator lever should be set
from START to MAX.
Should the cutters become blocked
by a foreign body or the motor
become overloaded, the safety
stirrup should be released, the
motor is automatically switched off.
The foreign body should be re-
moved if necessary.
A
Caution ! When starting
the motor, ensure that
the cutter is able to turn freely.
If necessary, the lawn mower can
be tipped over sideways so that
the cutter faces away from the
operator.
A
Caution ! The motor should
not be left running in en-
closed spaces as there is a danger
of poisoning from carbon monox-
ide fumes.
Stopping the motor
The safety bar should be released
to stop the motor (Fig. 3, Pos.
1
).
The cutters can be brought to
a standstill within 3 seconds by
means of an integrated brake.
A
Caution ! The cutters con-
tinue to revolve after the
motor has been stopped.
A
Caution ! The safety equip-
ment installed in the ma-
chine by the manufacturer should
not be removed or by-passed,
e.g. by binding the clutch lever
to the transom, as otherwise
danger of injury arises and the
motor can no longer be automa-
tically stopped.
4.5. Electro-start with the
Gardena Accu-Pack AP 12
(40 BR V12 and 46 BR V12)
Figures 5 and 6
The Accu AP 12 has not been
charged. The Accu should be
charged before the first use.
The enclosed NL 12 accu charger
appliance should be used for
this purpose.
Only the Gardena accumulator
system V12 Accu-Pack AP 12
should be charged with this
charger appliance.
Charging the accumulator
Figure 5
The plug should be inserted into
the socket (Fig. 5, Pos. 1) and the
appliance plug (Fig. 5, Pos. 2) in
the connector socket of the Accu-
Pack AP 12 (Fig. 5, Pos. 3). The
