Fault Possible Cause Remedy
Allow lawn to dry,
do not mow if grass is wet. Ground softened by water,
lawn too wet.
Mower leaves deep tracks.
Readjust the clutch cable. Clutch cable stretched.
Drive belt is to be replaced.
Obtain assistance from
a Brill Service Station. Drive belt broken. Wheel drive not
functioning.
Contact specialist workshop /
service centre. V-belt slipping. Whistling noise.
Change blade and / or use
a slightly higher cutting height. Blade is too blunt,
cutting height too low.
Lawn turning yellow,
cut not clean.
Close the valve in the tank cap. Tank cap valve not open.
Petrol leaks out when in
the parking position.
Motor overhaul at specialist
workshop required. Cylinders, pistons and bearing
of crankshaft have seized.
No motor oil in crankcase.
Motor starts for a short time
then suddenly stops with a loud
bang.
Valve in the tank cap valve open
– clean the drill hole in the tank
cap from the inside using
a pointed object.
– Contact specialist workshop /
service centre.
Tank cap valve not open
Ventilation in the tank cap
blocked. Engine starts up and
then stops.
Clean spark plug and / or
fill the fuel tank. Spark plug defective or
fuel tank empty.
Press the primer several times
(see Putting your Lawnmower
into Operation). Primer was not operated
when starting the motor.
No fuel, fuel tank empty.
Motor does not start.
Retighten the screws.
Have damaged parts replaced
by the service station. Blade or blade flange damaged
(unbalanced), screw loose.
Blade flange loose on the motor
shaft.
Lawnmower does not run
smoothly or vibrates vigorously.
Tighten bolts. Bolts at motor, its fixings or
mower housing are loose.
Abnormal noises,
lawnmower rattles.
