The information provided below is to assist gaseous fuel
system technicians in planning installations.
In no way
should this information be interpreted to conflict with
applicable fuel gas codes. Consult with your local fuel
supplier or Fire Marshall if questions or problems arise.
TO THE INSTALLER
:Consultwiththehomegenerator
owner(s)andconveyanytechnicalconsiderationsthatmight
affecttheirinstallationplansbeforeapplyingthesegeneral
guidelines.
Thefollowinggeneralrulesapplytogaseousfuelsystem
piping:
• Thepipingshouldbeofamaterialthatconformsto
federalandlocalcodes,rigidlymountedandprotected
againstvibration.
• Pipingshouldbeprotectedfromphysicaldamage
whereitpassesthroughflowerbeds,shrubbeds,and
othercultivatedareaswheredamagecouldoccur.
• Installtheflexible,gaseoushose(supplied)between
thehomegeneratorFuelInletportandrigidpipingto
preventthermalexpansionorcontractionfromcausing
excessivestressonthepipingmaterial.
NOTE
:Wherelocalconditionsincludeearthquake,tornado,
unstableground,orfloodhazards,specialconsideration
shallbegiventoincreasestrengthandflexibilityofpiping
supportsandconnections.
CAUTION
Thesuppliedflexiblegaseouspipeisnottobeinstalled
undergroundorincontactwiththeground.
Theentireflexiblegaseouspipemustbevisiblefor
periodicinspectionandmustnotbeconcealedwithin,
contact,orrunthroughanywall,floor,orpartition.

• Pipingmustbeofthecorrectsizetomaintainthe
requiredsupplypressuresandvolumeflowunder
varyinggeneratorloadconditionswithallgasappliances
connectedtothefuelsystemturnedonandoperating.
• Useanapprovedpipesealantorjointcompoundonall
threadedfittingstoreducethepossibilityofleakage.
• Installedpipingmustbeproperlypurgedandleak
tested,inaccordancewithapplicablecodesand
standards.

systemlinesmustbeproperlypurgedandleaktested.

Consider the following factors when planning to install the
fuel supply system:
Thehomegeneratorengineisfittedwithafuelmixersystem
thatmeetsthespecificationsoftheCaliforniaAirResources
Boardfor“tamper-proof”fuelsystems.
• Aminimumofoneaccessible,approvedmanualshutoff
valveshallbeinstalledinthefuelsupplylinewithin
6ft(1.8m)ofthehomegenerator.Aunionorflanged
connectionshallbeprovideddownstreamfromthis
valvetopermitremovalofcontrols.
• Naturalgasfuelsupplypressureatthegenerator’sfuel
inletportshouldbebetween5to7inchesofwater(in.
W.C.)atfullloadwithallgasappliancesturnedonand
operating.
• LPgasfuelsupplypressureshouldbe11to14inches
ofwater(in.W.C.)atfullloadwithallgasappliances
turnedonandoperating.
TheHomeGeneratorhasbeenfactorysettorunonnatural
gas.IfyouneedtochangefromnaturalgastoLPgas,
theunitwillneedtobereconfigured,asdescribedin

Itisrecommendedthatthefuelconnectionincorporatethe
followingcomponents:
• Amanualfuelshut-offvalvelocatedintheinteriorof
thebuilding.
• Amanualfuelshut-offvalvelocatedoutsidethe
building,justbeforethegeneratorunit.
• Wheretheformationofhydratesoriceisknownto
occur,pipingshouldbeprotectedagainstfreezing.The
terminationofhardpipingshouldincludeasediment
trapwherecondensateisnotlikelytofreeze.
• Amanometerportshouldbeprovided.
